In a resounding commitment to education and innovation, industrialist CK Birla announced that the Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, would bolster its investments in research and technology. This declaration, made during the institute’s platinum jubilee celebrations, underscores BIT’s dedication to nation-building and adapting to the evolving educational landscape.
Addressing the gathering, CK Birla, Chairman of the CK Birla Group, highlighted BIT’s pioneering role in establishing India’s first space engineering and rocketry department. He also noted the institute’s recent introduction of a new discipline in quantitative economics and data sciences, a first for the nation. “Our continued investments in research and technology reaffirm BIT’s commitment to nation-building,” Birla stated, emphasizing the institute’s proactive approach to staying at the forefront of industry-driven programs.
BIT Mesra’s expansive portfolio, comprising over 20 disciplines, more than 10,000 students, and over 600 faculty members, is a testament to its growth and impact. Birla expressed pride in the institute’s robust alumni network, which spans the globe with 50,000 graduates.
Vice-Chancellor Indranil Manna detailed the institute’s recent achievements, including 138 sponsored projects worth Rs 62.9 crore and 117 consultancy projects amounting to Rs 3.09 crore over the past four years. Manna also highlighted significant investments, such as Rs 14 crore for new equipment, Rs 6 crore for the GP Birla scholarship, and Rs 2 crore for the Institute Innovation Council.
Aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘vikshit Bharat’ by 2047, Manna affirmed BIT’s commitment to contributing to this national aspiration. He announced a substantial investment of Rs 200 crore for the construction of a new academic tower, faculty residential complex, and a boys’ hostel. Manna also sought support from the state government to enhance campus security and facilitate the implementation of upcoming construction projects.
