RM Contractors, a leading Groundworks and Civil Engineering firm, has taken a significant step towards enhancing its operational efficiency and precision by investing in ten Hitachi ZX130LCN-7B excavators and four ZX210LC-7 excavators. The company has also adopted Leica GPS machine control technology for part of its new fleet. This strategic move underscores RM Contractors’ commitment to innovation, efficiency, and precision in construction, ensuring projects are delivered to the highest standards while strengthening its position as a forward-thinking leader in the industry.
Based in Worcestershire with regional offices in Oxfordshire and Leicestershire, RM Contractors has grown from a family business established in 1994 to one of the leading Groundworks companies in the Midlands and the Home Counties. The company primarily operates in the residential market for the UK’s top house builders, offering a range of services from groundworks to infrastructure.
Tom Scarborough, Head of Technical, Engineering & QA at RM Contractors, shared insights into the company’s decision to invest in the new technology. “We have watched the industry implement GPS solutions, and earlier this year we purchased four machines including base and cab kits. Following our own internal trial and review period we decided to purchase a further 14 machines with base kits, and four with cab kits. We have found that using Leica GPS systems, it saves our engineers time and increases our site efficiency. This can be seen through material management and site output. We are looking forward to continuing our investment over the next few years as we look to expand our fleet further.”
The integration of Leica GPS machine control technology with Hitachi machinery is expected to bring substantial benefits to RM Contractors. The technology enhances precision in construction, reduces material waste, and improves overall site efficiency. This aligns with the company’s goal of delivering high-quality projects while maintaining a competitive edge in the market.
Jon Barnfield, Midlands Sales Director, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. “We are delighted to support RM Contractors in their investment in Leica GPS machine control technology. By integrating this advanced system with our Hitachi machinery, they are setting a benchmark for efficiency, accuracy, and sustainability in the construction sector. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to innovation and delivering solutions that empower customers to achieve more with confidence.”
This investment by RM Contractors is not just about adopting new technology; it’s about redefining the standards of construction. As the industry grapples with the challenges of labor shortages, environmental concerns, and the need for greater precision, companies like RM Contractors are leading the way in demonstrating how technology can drive efficiency and sustainability.
The adoption of GPS machine control technology is a testament to RM Contractors’ forward-thinking approach. It highlights the company’s dedication to leveraging innovation to overcome industry challenges and deliver exceptional results. As the construction sector continues to evolve, such investments will be crucial in shaping the future of the industry.
In an era where precision, efficiency, and sustainability are paramount, RM Contractors’ investment in advanced technology sets a new benchmark. It challenges other companies in the sector to follow suit, driving a collective push towards a more innovative and sustainable future for construction.
