Herzegovina Bridge Tests Set New Standards for Energy Infrastructure

In the heart of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a critical infrastructure project has undergone rigorous scrutiny to ensure its durability and safety. The Hercegovina Bridge, spanning the Neretva River, has recently been subjected to comprehensive static and dynamic load testing, offering valuable insights into its structural integrity. Led by Mladen Kustura from the University of Mostar’s Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy, this research not only validates the bridge’s construction quality but also sets a precedent for future infrastructure projects, particularly in the energy sector.

The testing process was meticulously designed to push the boundaries of the bridge’s capabilities. “We aimed to determine the static and dynamic characteristics of the structure,” Kustura explained. “This involved measuring vertical displacements, strains, and accelerations under various load conditions.” The equipment used for these tests was state-of-the-art, ensuring precise and reliable data collection. The results were then analyzed and compared to assess the bridge’s performance and construction quality.

One of the key findings of this research was the identification of the bridge’s oscillation frequencies. These frequencies are crucial in understanding how the bridge responds to dynamic loads, such as those caused by heavy traffic or seismic activity.
