Robby Pahlevi David, a researcher from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Nusa Putra University in Sukabumi, West Java, Indonesia, led the systematic literature review that examined the utilization of solar panels in transportation, residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural sectors. The findings reveal a promising landscape where solar technology is not just a green alternative but also a cost-effective and efficient energy source.

“Solar panels provide significant benefits in supporting energy sustainability,” David stated, highlighting the high efficiency of solar panels in electric vehicles and their role in reducing carbon emissions in the transportation sector. The study also noted substantial energy cost savings in commercial buildings, demonstrating the economic viability of solar technology.

In the agricultural sector, solar panels are being used innovatively for irrigation and crop storage, showcasing their adaptability to different industries. Technological advancements, such as bifacial panels and integration with energy storage systems, are further enhancing the efficiency and flexibility of solar applications.

However, the journey towards widespread adoption is not without challenges. High initial costs, location limitations, and technological efficiency remain significant barriers. The study provides a strategic guide for selecting the most suitable solar panel technology—monocrystalline, polycrystalline, or thin-film—for specific needs, helping stakeholders make informed decisions.

David emphasized the importance of technological innovation, cost reduction, and government policy support in accelerating the adoption of solar panels. “With optimal utilization, solar panels have significant potential to drive the transition toward sustainable energy in the future,” he said.
